How do I power my devices while on the run? How can I power my Garmin, charge my phone, charge my camera and run my lights without having to stop? The answer is easy: with a dynamo hub.

Essentially, a dynamo hub is a hub that is built into the front wheel of your bike, and that generates electricity, enabling you to power your electronic devices without create an unwanted amount of resistance.

Dynamo hub’s are now almost as small as a standard hub, and come in a range spoke configurations and axle standards in order to meet the demands of the most discerning cyclist.

In this case, by switching out the end-caps, you’ll be able to interchange your dynamo wheel between bikes that employ QR, 12 mm or 15 mm axles. You can get the hub in either the standard 100 mm hub width or to suit 110 mm Boost forks, and this disc brake hub is available with 6-bolt brake rotor mounts.  

Anyway, Dynamo hubs are becoming more and more common on bikes used for bicycle touring and bikepacking. This can be attributed to advancements in LED technology, improvements to the dynamo hub itself and the fact that we all have USB powered devices that we like to charge along the way.
